About Program
Head Start meets the needs of a diverse group of university students by providing engaging, academically enriching, and experiential learning sessions in work-readiness education and career perspectives. The program includes three volunteer-led sessions.
Following participation in this program, students will be able to:
– Create professional resumes and strong cover letters.
– Understand how to prepare for a job interview including self-presentation, handle interview questions, demonstrate appropriate behaviors and demonstrate one’s skills and relevant past experiences.
– Identify the steps involved in preparing for an internship and learn how to locate and secure a suitable internship.
Program Sessions
This module covers résumé writing. It includes tips on writing a powerful cover letter and a powerful résumé. It also includes tips on tackling résumé problems.
This session introduces participants to the science and art of interviewing. Through a series of exercises, participants will become knowledgeable of the major skills and behaviors associated with successful interviewing. Participants will find that such skills are key to giving a lasting first impression that will significantly increase their hiring potential in today’s increasingly competitive job market
This session introduces participants to internships, what they mean, how to prepare well for a good internship, and how to handle work duties in an internship. The session invites participants to choose internships that are not only rewarding in the short-run but that also fit their long-term career objectives.
